Rainy Days Things to Do in the Lake district
South Lakeland and the rain go hand in hand - but don’t worry as there is plenty going on to keep you busy should the heavens open! There are many activities to enjoy in the wet and rain, some are free and some do cost. A selection of ideas is listed below:
There's no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing - don suitable rainwear and carry on!
Go Waterfall Spotting – see the impressive waterfalls at Tom Gill in Coniston, Rydal Falls and Stock Ghyll Force in Ambleside. You could try the Elterwater Waterfalls Walk taking in Skelwith Force and Colwith Force.
Say hi to the animals – visit one of the many open farms across the area such as Ducky Park or Low Sizergh Barn. Alternatively head to the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Lakeland Wildlife Oasis or Lakes Aquarium.
Try a bit of ghost hunting – search South Lakeland’s historic houses, churches, monuments or castles or take a peek in the caves in Rydal!
Be a Culture Hound - browse the excellent art galleries or museums or other indoor attractions, many let kids go free! You could try a spot of rock climbing at Kendal Climbing Wall or visit an indoor soft play centre.
Retail therapy could be the answer to rainy woes! South Lakeland’s town centres feature a wide range of quality shopping including all the big brands alongside fabulous independents. Head for the pictures! Check out the listings at local venues in Ambleside, Bowness on Windermere, Ulverston, Kendal and Beetham.
