Sport in South Lakeland
South Lakeland is part of a glorious outdoor playground which provides the perfect environment for sporting activities. Whether it be playing football at the foot of Kendal Castle, or playing cricket with the backdrop of the dramatic Coniston fells, it is hard to think of a more picturesque location to play sport!
We boast a huge variety of sports played in a competitive but friendly spirit, including Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Netball, Rugby League, Rugby Union and Tennis.
Sport is not only a good way to keep fit and healthy, but also a great social activity to enjoy with friends and family. Young or old, competitive or casual, there’s something for everyone in South Lakeland!
Join your nearest sports clubs and participate against others in local competitive leagues. Adults can compete at senior levels; while a wealth of junior leagues offer opportunities for young people to be involved in physical activity. Whatever your sport and experience, you can find great courses and clubs to suit you through Active Cumbria. To find out more about giving sports a go, or about funding sport in the community, see the Sport England website.
Look at our Coaching in Sport page to see the vast array of coaching opportunities available to you and your children accross all manner of sports.
There are also many opportunities for people with disabilities in and around Cumbria to get involved in sport and physical activity. The Active Cumbria website provides details of a wide range of sports and also information on coaching, events and news.
