The A Word (2016)

The A Word showcases Cumbria on the BBC.

The A Word, a six part drama starring Christopher Eccleston, was filmed at various Cumbrian locations including Ambleside, Broughton and Keswick.

The programme focuses on the fortunes of a family who discover their six-year-old son has autism. It stars Inspector George Gently and Our Zoo actor Lee Ingleby.

Mr Ingleby, who played Stan Shunpike in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, was among the audience in Ambleside for a special screening last week.

Also in attendance was writer Peter Bowker, who won a BAFTA for his work on hit BBC Two drama, Marvellous.

Mr Bowker said: “We had a great time filming in the Lake District. The people of Cumbria made us very welcome.

“I hope they enjoy seeing places they recognise on TV and I hope people from across the country enjoy seeing such a beautiful county on screen."
