Traditional Lakeland Sports are held at Ambleside and Grasmere in July and August, in the heart of the beautiful Lake District National Park. In September, there's the Westmorland County Show near Kendal - an agricultural show exhibiting prime livestock with marquees displaying traditional crafts and much more. Sheep dog trials, featuring hound trails and Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, are part of the tapestry of the Lake District. Visit the North West Federation of Show Societies to see the regions diary of shows for the year!

Kendal Town Hall hosts a number of regular events, from coffee mornings to concerts, which are held on a weekly basis. Annually, real ale enthusiasts can sample many local beers and ciders at the Westmorland Beer Festival, held in Kendal Town Hall in October.

The Kendal Mountain Festival, in November, is the biggest event of its kind in Europe, featuring films, inspirational speakers and photography covering some of the most awe-inspiring mountains and extreme sports. Each year the Lake District welcomes thousands of outdoors enthusiasts from around the world to celebrate mountain culture.

The Lake District Summer Music Festival presents a varied programme of concerts performed by international musicians in historic churches and halls across South Lakeland.

For a group outing, enjoy the partying crowds and funfair at Cartmel Races, which rekindle the social gathering tradition of the original steeple to steeple chases. Most of our events are great for a family day out, including the Ulverston Dickensian Christmas Festival, a free event with hundreds of festive stalls, street entertainers, and Victorian costumes to enjoy.
