Arnside Promenade, Arnside
The best way to appreciate the picturesque former fishing port of Arnside, set in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is to approach it by train from Grange-over-Sands on the line from Barrow to Carnforth. The views of the Kent Estuary and Arnside Promenade during the 6 minute journey over the railway viaduct from Grange are quite simply stunning.
Arnside Promenade is a delightful spot retaining many of its original features, with a pier, a pretty Victorian parade of shops and a choice of pubs from which to enjoy tremendous views of Grange-over-Sands, the Lakeland fells and spectacular sunsets over Morecambe Bay.
You’ll find many lovely wooded walks nearby - around Arnside Knott, up to the Pepperpot monument at Silverdale or along the coast with its rocky coves, tide-washed sands, cliff top walks and sea views.
Why not take a gentle stroll along the Promenade on a summer’s evening and call in at No. 1 on the way back for a treat from the famous Arnside Chip Shop, open 7 days a week? Then relax and watch the sun set over the Bay while you enjoy a fish supper – just keep an eye on the seagulls, who would love to share it with you!
